Our nearby thatched village of Milton Abbas is often featured in calenders and film sets depicting its famous street. It boasts a Post Office Stores and Pub which serves excellent food. |
|
|
The village was built as a village by Lord Damer over 200 years ago to replace the houses he had demolished around his residence adjacent to Milton Abbey. At the bottom of the village lies a lake and the grounds of Milton Abbey which were landscaped by the well known landscape designer Capability Brown. |
|
The Abbey is half a mile from the village and can be approached on foot along the Monks Path starting at the bottom of the village. Built in the fourteeth century, it was part of a Benedictine monastery until the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII in the sixteenth century. |
|
|
There has been a church on this site for over 1000 years. Above the abbey, in the woods, is a charming fourteenth century chapel used by pilgrims as a stopover en-route across the country. |
| Milton Abbas is in the heart of Hardy's Dorset. From here you can explore
it all:
|
The Dorset Coast is within easy distance. Visitors can walk many sections
of the Coastal Path, enjoy Water Sports in Poole Harbour or simply enjoy
being by the sea. |
|

Here in rural Dorset, away from the pressures of time, you can wind down at Park Farm and put yourself together again! Park Farm is in an area of outstanding natural beauty, bordered by beautiful woodland. The views are southerly and extensive - on a clear day you can see the Isle of Wight!
There are wonderful walks to be had both gentle and more demanding. Leave your car at the Farm and enjoy the woodland walks, or visit the village of Milton Abbas only half a mile away, with Milton Abbey a further mile along the way. The walks in and around Milton Abbas generally take in a lot of woodland. This makes them particularly attractive in Autumn. But there are also superb coastal walks not too far away. So bring your hiking gear and explore our wonderful area on foot.
There are marked on-road cycle routes in the area and of course there are the bridleways and byways. You can get information about local cycle routes from the Tourist Information Bureaux in Blandford Forum and Milton Abbas.
And while you are out, on foot, or on your bike should you get caught in a downpour - this is England after all! - no need to clutter your cottage with wet coats and boots, we have plenty of space for you to dry out your clothes while you take a warm bath or snuggle up in front of a fire to recover.
Park Farm is a 27 acre working organic farm. Besides the livestock - sheep and
some cattle, we have livery stables for let. The arable land is put down to organic thatching straw, the
usually ends up as a party!
Or drive the reasonable distance, about half an hour's drive, to one of Dorset's
lovely beaches -
they are quite close and well worth a visit.
